Talk:Cyanohablab
From SEP Wiki
We are considering a more inclusive long-term name for this research group: "Environmental Biotechnology."
Our immediate goal is to develop simple molecular tools that will advance the Cyanobacterial Harmful Algal Blooms research initiated by Marc Los Huertos. For example, we would like to have a robust, student-friendly method to detect the presence of cyanobacteria capable of producing microcystin toxins in environmental samples.
Protocols similar to these can easily be adapted to answer many ecological questions that require the recognition of difficult to identify organisms (larvae, microscopic eukaryotes, fish fillets, cryptic invasive species) using DNA sequences. This will allow students to do capstone research in support of existing SEP ecological studies.
