Equipment and supplies for ENVS 303/L
(the 2-week field portion of the course)

  1. The following items will be provided
    1. Transportation (CSUMB Vans)
    2. Cooking stoves, pots, kitchen cleaning equipment
    3. First Aid kits
    4. Binoculars
    5. Compass and maps
    6. Specialized field equipment (e.g. rock hammers, hand lenses, microscope, etc)
    7. Traveling reference library of field guides and other books
       
  2. You must provide this required camping/hiking equipment
    1. Camping Equipment
      1. Tent (approx. 2 people in each tent, ESSP has five 2-person tents for check-out)
      2. Sleeping bag
      3. Small pillow or pillow case for stuffing soft clothes inside
      4. Backpack/daypack
      5. Water bottle (at least 1 liter)
      6. Plastic bags to protect valuables from rain.
      7. Adequate footwear
        1. Hiking boots (get them early and break them in first!!!)
        2. Good socks for hiking
        3. Camp shoes, sneakers, or water shoes
      8. Other clothing (be prepared to dress in layers since we will be traveling through climate extremes)
        1. 4-5  t-shirts, 2 long sleeve shirts, 1 warm sweater/fleece
        2. 2-3 shorts, 1 long-underwear, 2 long pants
        3. 1 parka (or warm layers for underneath rain jacket)
      9. Rain protection (a good rain proof jacket)
      10. Warm hat and gloves
      11. Rradiation shielding
        1. Hat / cap
        2. Sunscreen
        3. Sunglasses w/ U.V.A/B protection
      12. Bathing suit & towel
      13. Plate, bowl, cup, utensils (labeled with your name) and mesh bag / container to put them in.
         
  3. Food
    1. We will shop before and during the trip.  Cost for food is incorporated into the general fee for the course. Please alert any of the instructors regarding dietary constraints.
       
  4. You may wish to bring some of these optional items
    1. Camera
    2. Small folding cushion “stadium seat” for sitting on ground (e.g. Crazy Creek Chair)
