Applied Science to Address Environmental Decision Making


The M.S. in Applied Marine and Watershed Science (AMWS*) is an innovative interdisciplinary program offering training in science and technology in the context of environmental policy.

There are two degree options:

Within their chosen option, students elect one of two emphases:

  • Watershed Science Emphasis  

  • Marine Science Emphasis

The AMWS program prepares students for careers in applied scientific research, environmental resource management, environmental consulting, industry, non-profit agencies, environmental education, and further education in doctoral programs.

Out-of-state students: You may be elligible for in-state tuition rates. AMWS is a member of the Western Regional Graduate Program (WRGP. WRGP is a tuition-reciprocity arrangement coordinated through the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) that enables students from Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming to enroll at CSUMB and pay the resident tuition rate, instead of the nonresident rate that an out-of-state student would normally pay.
